Context
During his CA industrial training at Avery Dennison India (January 2023 – May 2024), Joalex owned a freight-reconciliation routine that consumed roughly three days of manual effort each cycle. This predates his PwC tenure and is not a client engagement.
The business problem
Freight charges arrive from multiple sources in inconsistent shapes. Reconciling them manually meant days of copying, matching and eyeballing — slow, tiring and exposed to human error precisely where accuracy mattered.
Analysis performed
Breaking the routine into its real steps: data preparation, matching logic, and exception identification. Most of the work proved to be deterministic rules that a machine should apply — only the exceptions genuinely needed human judgement.
Tools and methodology
Google Sheets, end to end — structured data preparation, formula-driven matching logic and automatic exception surfacing, built entirely with tools the team already used. No new licences, no new systems, no training burden.
Outcome — verified
Manual effort fell by more than 95%, and processing time dropped from approximately three days to about one hour. Exceptions are surfaced for human review, so control over the process improved alongside its speed. These figures are verified personal results.
